Furniture banks around the county battle the lack of mattresses.

They are expensive and most people do not buy them very often so the supply is low.

Beds4Kids and Cribs4Kids Program (click to print flier)  A warm crib or bed at night means a safe place to call home and better school day tomorrow. Too many moms cannot afford cribs and beds.

You can help:

  • Sponsor a crib or bed This is a great project for a penny jar or small school fundraiser.  For $100 we can purchase a new twin bed or crib for a child in need  Download sign for collection jar
  • Hold a Sleep A Thon and get service hours while you raise funds Download sponsor sheet and instructions
  • Build toddler beds or platform beds    For every toddler we can put in a toddler bed, we free up a twin or crib for the older and younger ones. This is a great group or scout project)

For a $100 donation we can provide a new mattress set or crib and send it home complete with sheets, blankets etc.

On an average day between 100-150 children in Lowell, MA alone that are sleeping on the floor while they wait for donated used or new mattresses and cribs.

Each month we give out roughly 80 beds including: mattresses sets, cribs, beds, sleeper couches, cots, futons and recliners (for heart patients).   But we never have enough beds. There are always kids on the wait list.  More than 2/3 of our clients are kids.

We welcome your donated clean mattresses to supplement the ones we  procure from large donations coming in from hotels and colleges.  Folding beds frames are always welcome too. We can purchase mattress sets for $100 per set when we have the donations to pay for them.

It is a national problem.  Most people keep mattresses for many years. After a few years, most are generally not suitable for other users.  And most people do not want to sleep in a second hand bed.

We do work with local hotels and universities that rotate out used mattresses about every 4 years but most do not use twin sized. Low income apartments only fit small twin mattresses in most bedrooms so our biggest demand is for the twin sets.We do work through many avenues both corporate and private to secure bulk donations but the demand far exceeds the supply.

Our goal is to get all the families on our list and living in our area up into safe warm beds this year.  With your help, we can make it happen
