Magic of Christmas

Magic of Christmas gifts continue to go out to our partner agencies and their clients. Dianna from CTI Shelters picked up some of their family gifts today in plenty of time to get them out to their clients before Christmas. All of the agencies have been very grateful for the support this year in spite of the pandemic we are all living through. They know how much these gifts will mean to their already struggling families. We are very grateful for the incredible support we received this year to help put a smile on a child’s face Christmas morning in a year that has given us few reasons to smile.

3rd grader Saharsh Dasari stopped by with his mom Sameera today. He was dropping off new coats and gift cards that he purchased with money he collected for Christmas. He also included a handwritten note that said –

“I am a third grader, for Christmas I collected money and my mom helped me buy new winter coats for kids who do not have them. We dropped off some coats two weeks ago at the wish project, Today I am droping of 3 more also, for the wish project. I donated the toys I got for my birthday 2 weeks ago at the wish project. I hope the kids who got these for Christmas, have fun with them.”

It’s hard to know just what to say about that note. The compassion and kindness it contains is like a ray of sunshine in what has been a sad and awful year for many. It’s children like Saharsh that give us hope for the future. Teach kindness and empathy to young children and they will model it for the rest of their lives.

Four of our wonderful weekly volunteers help Lori fill the last of our family Christmas wishes. They gave out new softball gloves donated by a local team to some teen and preteen girls. Lori is hopeful that the remaining family bags will be picked up by our partner agencies in time for them to distribute to their clients before Christmas. We are so grateful for the wonderful support we received by the community this year in spite of all the obstacles of the pandemic to help their neighbors in Greater Lowell and Merrimack Valley.

Thank you to Julie Allard and our friends from Fred C. Church Insurance for sponsoring families for our Magic of Christmas project. They consistently support our clients whether it is donating cake mix and frosting or back to school supplies in the fall. They are a corporate partner in every sense of the word. We know the agencies that receive these will be thrilled to give these gifts out to their clients in time for Christmas. Thanks for helping put some magic under the tree for a child or family this Christmas.

Meet 3 year old Kendra. Kendra and her mom Lisa Colella were talking about how there are other families who do not have everything that they do and Kendra asked if they could give nightlights to kids who didn’t have any. So Lisa and Kendra did just that. They purchased 21 nightlights for kids and wrapped them in pretty holiday bags and included a sweet note and donated them to us. The next day those same holiday bags were picked up by Carmen from Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children to go out to their clients. Now 21 children will go to sleep to the glow of Kendra’s nightlights and know a little girl cared enough about their safety and comfort to want to help them. Kids helping kids is a magical way to serve your community.

Thank you to Randy Robitaille and friends for the wonderful donation of toys for our Magic of Christmas project again this year. All these gifts will ensure there are so many smiles on the faces of children in Greater Lowell and Merrimack Valley on Christmas morning.

Nancy and Carol are two of Santa’s busiest elves at the warehouse. They spend their time checking his list and making sure all the agencies and their clients wishes were filled for Christmas. They emerge from the basement toyland with the agencies bags as they arrive for pick up. How lucky is Lori to have such awesome volunteer helpers!

Charlie, our warehouse manager, helps donor Jenelle with the Christmas donations she dropped off yesterday. We are grateful to our supportive donors who are spreading the holiday cheer this year to so many families in need in Greater Lowell and Merrimack Valley.
